You are in the right place. GASO offers you personalized support with a sensitive and qualified counselor. Together, we will identify and explore the challenges you are facing as a caregiver. You will be free to express yourself openly without fear of judgment.

Find comfort and support at every stage of your journey

Whether occasionally or on a regular basis, our individual psychosocial support services provide a space to express your emotions, uncertainties, or guilt, and benefit from attentive, compassionate listening.

There are several good reasons to seek individual support:

  • You are experiencing difficult emotions that are hard to understand or resolve.
  • You feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and have little time for yourself.
  • You feel misunderstood by those around you.
  • You feel stuck, powerless, or guilty.
  • Your loved one’s illness is progressing, leading to difficult changes.

“The professionalism, kindness, empathy, and knowledge of [my counselor] greatly helped ease my role as a caregiver and reduce my anxiety. Their support was invaluable.”

Post-Caregiving Support

Post-caregiving refers to the period during which a caregiver experiences grief, characterized by their caregiving role.

Grief in post-caregiving differs from other types of grief, mainly due to the emotional bond shared with the deceased, the loss of the caregiver’s identity, and the transition that follows the end of their caregiving role.

Individual grief support offers a safe and compassionate space to navigate the grieving process in post-caregiving. This support is provided by counselors to bereaved caregivers who received support from GASO before the death of their loved one, and it continues for up to one year afterward.

This support allows our members to:

  • Reflect on the transformation of their caregiving role in the context of grief.
Access external resources (grief therapy, support groups, etc.).
  • Feel supported.
Share emotions related to the grieving process.
  • Learn more about the grieving process.
“I was happy to know that I still had a place where I could express my feelings.”

Take a Moment for Yourself: Relaxation with Personalized Guidance

Our individual relaxation sessions offer moments of self-care, where you will be guided in a personalized and adapted way to meet your needs. A counselor will assist you during these guided meditation sessions, helping you focus, relax, and deepen your experience using various techniques.

These sessions provide a safe space to explore your emotions and give yourself a break from the stress that caregiving can bring. Depending on the needs identified during your first meeting, different exercises will be offered, such as breathing techniques, self-compassion exercises, or visualization practices.

It’s possible to benefit from these sessions while maintaining your psychosocial support with another counselor at GASO.

These sessions are designed for those who wish to:

  • Develop self-compassion (be kinder to themselves).
  • Learn emotional self-regulation techniques.
  • Experience moments of relaxation.
  • Manage stress more effectively.
  • Improve body awareness and connection.

A Group to Belong To

Caregivers can often feel alone, even when surrounded by others. This is because their reality differs greatly from those around them, creating a sense of isolation. To foster a sense of belonging, one must not only feel seen and recognized but also understood. Our group services are designed to meet these needs.
