MedOclock®: an app specifically designed for caregivers

It was during a visit to the dentist, where Julie Magnan accompanied her father with Parkinson's disease, that the spark for a future mobile application specifically intended for caregivers was ignited.

It's 2012. Upon arriving at the dentist's office, they are asked to provide a complete list of Julie's father's medications before proceeding with the planned treatment. The hitch: her father had forgotten the list, and Julie didn’t know it. Forced to turn back and reschedule the appointment, Julie finds herself asking many questions: “What do I do if I bring dad to my place for the day? What do I need to know?”, “What are his medications?”, “How could we easily share all his medical information to help each other?”

This situation is very indicative of what many caregivers experience. Often, one main individual is responsible for all the needs of the person losing autonomy, and even when their network is willing to lighten the mental load, the amount of information to transmit is so overwhelming that asking for help becomes difficult. This primarily results in increasing the burden on caregivers and isolating them from their support network that could potentially be solicited for help.

Towards a solution to break caregiver isolation

Driven by a genuine desire to break the isolation of caregivers and facilitate the transfer of information related to the person being cared for, Julie Magnan quickly mobilized various stakeholders to help her establish a tool capable of facilitating monitoring, communication, and organization related to a person losing autonomy.

Building on her years of expertise in communication and marketing, Mrs. Magnan first began creating a smart pill organizer in 2012, then embarked on a more comprehensive solution a few years later, which would eventually be named MedOclock®, a mobile application specifically designed to break caregiver isolation.

So, what exactly is MedOclock®?

MedOclock® is a simple and secure application that allows caregivers to “connect with the care community (family, friends, care services, healthcare professionals) surrounding a person with reduced autonomy, enabling them to delegate tasks, track progress, make contact with them, and above all have all the information in real time in one place.”

Born as a response to the obstacles encountered by a caregiver, the application offers features tailored to the needs of caregivers, such as having at their fingertips:

· The list of medications to take

· The schedule and contacts of those who help you

· Medical appointments

· Medical cards and documents
